Q: Who can participate as a RIDER? A: Riders must be a sworn law enforcement officer, active or retired. Q: Do I have to be assigned to a bicycle unit in my agency? A: Riders do not have to be assigned to a bike patrol unit within their agency, however some biking experience is recommended. Q: Who can particpate as a member of the Support Team? A: Support Staff must be an active or retired law enforcement officer or an immediate family member of an active or retired law enforcement officer. All participants must be 18 years of age. Q: What are the dates of the Memorial Ride? A: We depart from the Hampton Roads area on May 10th at 8:00 A.M. We ride on May 10th, 11th, and 12th (In 2009 that's a Sunday, Monday and Tuesday). Q: How much does it cost to participate? A: Riders are required to raise a minimum of $1500.00. Support Staff are required to raise a minimum of $750.00. 1st Year participants must pay a one-time, non-refundable $125 membership fee. Q: How do I get a Tour jacket and/or bicycle jersey? A: Riders will be provided a jacket and jersey after sucessfully reaching their $1500 requirement. Q: Do I need to make hotel reservations? A: We will make hotel reservations and cover the hotel expenses for May 10th, 11th, and 12th for Riders/Support Staff. Q: How far is Chapter IV's Memorial Ride? A: The whole ride is approximately 250 miles. The first day is about 110 miles; however, it is almost entirely flat. The next two days are about 65 miles each and consist of some rolling hills. Q: What is the pace? A: We aim for 15 MPH. Q: How do I register to participate? A: You must first apply and be accepted as a member.
